Frames, 2023

In this project I explored themes such as everyday life, nostalgia and collection through investigating a modern archive, the phone camera roll. I was interested in the imagery that we accumulate during daily life, what we keep and why.

I realised that I myself had been saving and screenshotting to aid future reference, but never ended up looking back at these things, meaning they were forgotten in a jumble of almost 10 thousand images.

I made a random date generator which would generate a date at the push of a button, and knitted the image from that date on my camera roll, creating a series of knitted tapestries of the images.

Along with them are steel frames inspired by wrought iron gates, a recurring symbol of everyday decoration.
