Can trees hear? ,2023

Can trees hear? are 2 publications exploring the lives of 2 chestnut trees in Camberwell, South London. The project explores ideas of connectivity and connection between trees explored by Peter Wohlleben in his book The Hidden Life of Trees.

I was interested in trees living in urban environments and how this could affect their lives. Upon visiting the trees, I became interested in sound and the noises that the trees were surrounded by.

I photographed the trees and recorded 30 second clips of audio on a sound chip which I inserted into the middle of the book. The chip is controlled by a light sensor, so when the book is opened, sounds begin to play.
